Relationships in the beginning are exciting, sweet, and consumed with endless affection and love. The same love can turn into something you want nothing a part of. That part is Hyde the cruel, remorseless person that you fell in love with. Jekyll is the person you fell in love with, the person that had nothing wrong with them. You loved everything about him/her from their smile to personality. Jekyll and Hyde are the same person the duality of what seems like a split personality. When a relationship is in the lively stage, where two people are basically inseparable no one tells them it will end. All relationships will end it’s not a matter of how, but when. No one ever prepares you for the Hype personality to come out. The Hyde personality only shows its face when the relationship is over. The disgusting person finally shows. The complete opposite of what you imagined and expected. Everything you worked so hard for in the relationship is gone. All the conversations and contact are now cease. This person is nothing like what he/she once was. This person wants nothing to do with you after the breakup. They aren’t even the same person; they never will be. When I had a recent breakup; my ex literally turned into a monster within the first week. She hasn’t been the same since. I don’t expect her to be ever again. She had an internal metamorphous where her former personality changed into something bitter. We all notice the drastic change in people when a breakup happens. We never question why the sudden change. Why does this transition in personality occur? Is it because they have changed and became a new person? Just like the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hype, Dr. Jekyll develops a potion that turns him into Mr. Hyde. Mr. Hyde grows in power and consumes Dr. Jekyll. Mr. Hyde has complete control over Dr. Jekyll. The same potion that makes Jekyll turn into Hyde is the same potion that turns Hyde into Jekyll. He requires a higher dosage to turn himself back into Jekyll. Jekyll looks all over the streets for the same ingredients he originally used in the potion. He notices that one of the original components had a unique imperfection thus the original formula could never be replicated. Jekyll realizes he will be Hyde forever and commits suicide by poisoning. This story is similar to people in relationships because they become consumed by this new personality. They will never be the same again and in the beginning they had control now they don’t. It seems like everyones’ ex becomes a Hyde in one way or another. The point is realizing that there is no control over this person. It’s a duality of human nature, and what makes the person corrupt in the first place. The person that loves you the most has the ability to hurt you the most. There is a saying “Keep your friends close but your enemies closer.” Your enemy is also your best friend. It seems like in a relationship the significant other is the best friend. They know everything about you but, that may be the same thing that hurts you. When the relationship is ending, you become completely vulnerable and mortal. You’re accessible to being hurt by the person you trust the most. Everyone becomes a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and the reasons behind it is unknown. The personality change just happens, and there is nothing you can do about it. The only thing you can do is realize it much quicker. When you see the transition from Jekyll to Hyde leave the relationship before it gets worse. Becoming Hyde is inevitable I think everyone after the break up happens becomes a Mr. Hyde. I’ve been trying to answer the question of why it happens. It seems like answering the question won’t do me any good. The real realization is knowing that this will happen in the first place.
The Phantom Relationship
•December 5, 2009 • Leave a CommentEveryone will have an inevitable separation from someone during their lifetime. It can be a friendship or a relationship with a significant other. The person who you interact most with becomes the stranger you never knew. The decline comes from being too close for too long, this is where the relationship becomes a disaster. I noticed the people who I spent the most time with was the quickest to leave me. They needed someone new; someone that wasn’t me. They needed to find another individual; my existence was gone afterwards. It was like we haven’t seen each other in years. The eye contact was limited to a few seconds. The awkwardness of starting small talk was overwhelming. I knew when this happened the death already occurred. The relationship was in “burial stage”, and it would take a lot of effort in rebuilding it. When relationships enter the “burial” stage, it will never be the same. All previous feelings and thoughts are gone. You’ll need to re-evaluate the entire relationship from the beginning. When does it go to “burial” stage?, when the first real fight happens. The petty little fights don’t matter; it’s the one that has doubts attached. Maybe you’ll be better off without me talk. For relationships it’s when you know the feelings aren’t the same. You can’t stop a declining relationship from happening. It will happen, and there is nothing you can do about it. That sounds somber, depressing, and surprisingly realistic. Life is filled with these moments; people come and go instantly. People want validity in other people. They want to explore what life has to offer. That includes cutting other people off almost completely. The hardest part is not having that person around anymore. It’s like losing a limb; you know it’s gone but, you still “feel” their presence. The phantom relationship is what I’ll call it. The people that I lost; I think about them a lot. All the memories we had together, and the feelings we shared. These thoughts will always be with me. The thoughts also gives me false hope that they will the same again. They will never be the same, and that is the truth. The part to acknowledge is reality; the reality is that they are gone. The former persona within the person is dead. They don’t need you anymore; you are a shell of their former “life” We only have one life to live yet we live multiple times. We grow, change, and die numerous times. The journey ends, begins, and starts over again. Curiosity also plays a major part in the separation of people. We all want to experience new people; that means to completely kill relationships. When we end relationships; we don’t only end the connection, but we murder our former self. It’s a shedding and cleansing phase that we all must experience. Sometimes we make mistakes; we end relationships that are completely positive. People tend to end good relationships; only hoping that a better relationship emerges from the predicament. Humans love to test other humans for loyalty and love. When cheaters cheat they don’t want to end their relationship. They want forgiveness and it’s a test of loyalty from the other person. It’s the same thought process when friendships end. The person who ends the friendship is testing the other person’s loyalty to him/her. The person wants to know if he/she does something wrong will they be forgiven? The answer is no for both the cheater and friend in the example. That test is the ultimate ultimatum, where the line is crossed. The person is already disrespected and hurt. The phantom relationship is a part of life. We will all experience the terrifying and painful detachment feeling when a person leaves our life. They are leaving to see a new horizon. Maybe it will a positive change for the person. As hard as the transition is. We all as humans have to make this decision at least once in our lives.

Request: Fashion Industry in 10 years
•September 20, 2009 • Leave a CommentFashion designs trends, the most profitable aspect of the industry; trends are slowly starting to die. Young trend-setters like Pharrell Williams and Olsen Twins are making individual trends now. The fashion elite is moving into the “Holy Grail” of thinking- I don’t give a shit how I look. It seems like fashion now is more about self-expression than being trendy. Trends aren’t cool anymore; looking like clones walking down the street. The fashion industry is catching on to this new avant-grade way of thinking. It seems like being a fashion outsider is more socially acceptable, than wearing Ray Ban Wayfarers. The outsider’s clothing style is becoming the new trends. Kids wearing flannel shirts and dirty Converses are now in the in crowd. People want to perfect “I just threw this on” look when in fact it took them thirty minutes to organize. I see this all the time now, and it’s relieving to witness. The artsy kids with the paint smeared New York Dolls shirts, now are heirs to the new fashion industry. Looking chic and a little too well planned out is out the door. When people compliment your style now it means I like your individuality rather than I like the sneakers that I see everybody wear. I spoke to some art kids, and they noticed people are noticing their style now than before. This shift probably won’t be a permanent stamp on the fashion industry, but the way of thinking will be. Maybe the backlash against society has to do with it or the recession. People just don’t care too much what they look like, and you shouldn’t either. This may be one of those underlining trends or fads that die out quickly but, the people who wore them first will continue wearing it.
The Media & Michael Jackson
•July 14, 2009 • Leave a CommentOn June 25, 2009 Michael Jackson, the king of pop, died suddenly at the age of 50 from cardiac arrest in UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. His legacy will be sealed as a tragic one, because of the allegations surrounding his later life. All the child sexual abuse trials and plastic surgeries to his face made him more of a spectacle. When he was living he was portrayed as a pedophile and monster of sorts around children. He was highly misunderstood, and now with his death sends shockwaves around the world. People who hated him before, now love the man in the mirror. People don’t understand that, when your childhood consists of being branded as a product the damage it could do. Joe Jackson, Michael’s father, beat perfection into his children and they didn’t even call him Dad, they called him Joseph. Young Michael never had a childhood later, in his life he would discuss being sadden by children playing outside while he recorded. All he did as a child was live a life in the spotlight. When he developed acne as a young adult he would be ashamed because of the thousands of people seeing his face. His entire life was in front of the media and sadly at the end of it as well. The same machine that destroyed Michael’s life is the same that spread news of his death. Google news and Twitter actually shut down numerous times during the news he suffered cardiac arrest. His music and love for humanity was universal that why so many people from different parts of the world can connect with Michael. Another reason is because people felt they knew people when little Michael was growing up into the spotlight. He was severely damaged and his inner hatred for himself was in fact the media’s and his father’s fault. His father’s fault for making him never grow into his manhood and having him a walking puer aeterus. He was emotionally at adolescent level so “normal” people couldn’t relate to the Disney movies and sleepovers. He didn’t get the childhood love that he needed early so he found it elsewhere as an adult. Michael having close to half a billion dollars at his free will of course he brought ferris wheels and childlike rides for himself. He was stuck in a child’s emotional level; so he never knew what it was like as a child to have fun so he explored it as an adult. The media exploited him on so many inhumane levels and that is why he was obsessed with his face. All the facial surgeries was a product of the media always snapping pictures. The inner voice of his father telling him his nose is too big; and the whole entire world seeing it. No one could live with that amount of pressure and be fully happy. I’m actually thankful Michael can finally rest in peace; he gave the world so much brilliant music and love.
The Magnetism of Conde Nast
•June 19, 2009 • Leave a CommentMillions of young minds are distorted and plagued by the front covers of fashion magazines. The flawless and unblemished faces with the expensive appealing clothing that allure young customers to purchase these products. This isn’t a new topic but that doesn’t mean it should be justifiable by any means. The titles of the magazines even are just as appealing as the overall look of the magazine. Titles like W,Glamour,Esquire,GQ, Allure, and Self. All pretaining to you the consumer the ultimate bait in the post consumerism world. The designer labels pay for their products to be the scented cologne pages. The advertisment dollars that accompany the magazine is remarkable. Have you ever seen a fashion or any magazine in general without ads? No because these ads help the magazine stay in the business. The partership is hand and hand to lure the consumer into spending. Everywhere we look there is more to be brought from television to the newspaper. People then ask why are we in a recession and a difficult economic situation? The solution is as simple as not purchasing these items; then again we need certain items. These lifestyle magazines don’t show the real products we use everyday. Sure you probably use an expensive bottle of Chanel perfume or wear Gucci loafers everyday but you don’t need to. I’d be a hypocritic to say this didn’t affect me it did. My closet is front and back with designer clothing from Ralph Lauren to Burberry. The aesthetic feeling of wearing an upscale brand is great but then the euphora quickly dies. You realize I spend $300 on cotton with a sewed logo on the back with someone else’s name on it plus it cost $3.00 to make. You just gave that brand $297 and your dignity. I like certain name brands but GQ makes it so hard not to go crazy in Neiman Marcus. The clothes on their models fit perfectly but then to think about it. They use photoshop to enhance the product’s appeal and the models too. I’m writing against fashion and lifestyle magazines yet I have over hundred issues in my room and years of subscriptions. I like looking through the articles with 90% filled with scented strips. It’s nice to witness yourself in a higher social class it really is but now is it worth it?
V for Vendetta (The Change) Poem
•May 9, 2009 • 1 CommentV for Vendetta
The Beretta the unsigned letter with no return address
Leaving no stone unturned buried between the Vicoden and bones
The home that feels all alone
Blood vessels that constricts and the open hand morphs into a fist
The fist opens up again to reveal a pistol your hand
They can’t understand the source of the anger
The emotions that transformed the friend into a stranger
The nerve wrecking danger isn’t in your favor
The only savior isn’t in the sky, but looking you in the mirror
The vision couldn’t be any clearer
With the same old drama and bullshit that same Beretta holds no clip
The pistol is your mouth and bullets is your words; trying to penetrate to ultimately stimulate the change
That source of ammo that can produce the change; it’s a beautiful thing.
First Instinct and Decision Making- Is it always right?
•April 11, 2009 • 2 CommentsJust starting this post was a task in itself. I was going against my first instinct immediately, whether to write about first instincts or not (How ironic). Everytime I went against my instinct I was always wrong. There wasn’t a time where my second thought was correct. How come we go against our “gut reaction” where the gastrointestinal tract sends hormones to your brain hence the name gut reaction)sometimes? Is it because we think we haven’t put enough thought into what we are thinking about? The subconscious plays a huge role in our decision making without us noticing. The orbitofrontal cortex one of the lesser understood regions of the brain responsible for decision making. The orbitofrontal cortex isn’t one of the largest regions of the brain, does the structure have to do with the cognitive processes that occur in the brain? Yes the rest of our brains due to evolution we developed a frontal lobe now. We have little understanding of our decision making and the spontaneous reactions that we make all the time. We are programmed to avoid danger but not programmed correctly to always make the right decision. Retail companies help us mostly to make the wrong decisions. They use subliminal messages that drill into consumer’s mind. They promote these little rituals with their products like Corona with a lime wedge on the side of the glass. What does this have to do with first instinct? We know they are taking our hard earned money and buying items we don’t need. Remember September 11th 2001 of course you do you were probably shopping on the 12th. As a way to combat stress we shop and make bad decisions all the time. Our first instinct should kick in and tell us we are doing something wrong. It doesn’t unless we educate ourselves more to make positive decisions. Remember your first instinct is your subconscious telling you it’s right don’t go against it.
Please Dream: We need an educational reform
•April 7, 2009 • Leave a CommentWe are fed a vision of hope and positivity. If the aftermath of the positivity shatters then our dreams are destroyed. We can put up where we left off but we can’t move forward. To move ahead forward we need to acknowledge our mistakes and envision our future. This is nothing wrong with dreaming. The greatest inventions known to man were made from a dream and a direct vision. Cornel West said “there is a difference from a stare and a vision.” A stare is a long glance has no conscious thought behind it. A vision has the direct path to an idea where the blueprint is laid. The blueprint is the outline of the vision and it is the person’s challenge to make that idea come to life. We are living in a time of creative downfall. The education system doesn’t nurture creativity in the schools. Sure they are art classes and music classes but they don’t appeal to the masses.
The SAT test doesn’t have a section where you can draw or paint on it and get a score. The systems of intelligence are boxing in our intellect to fit two certain criteria : Mathematical Processing and Verbal Reasoning. What is that going to do for the auditory learner or the kinesthetic learner? I recently wrote an essay discussing my frustration with the education system. People always point to the students on why they are failing and not of the failure is directed at the teacher. The teacher needs to be criticized as well. The education system needs stricter requirements for the teachers who teach students. I think they need a lesson in the theory of multiple intelligences by Howard Gardner. Howard Gardner a Harvard psychologist in 1983, defined the concept of intelligence and that the current system doesn’t display all of the abilities humans have. This theory should be taught because of the importance that students need the best schooling possible. The international community like India are surpasses the United States in I.Q. scores. The 25% of the highest I.Q. scores in India is more than all of the United States. How is the superpower of the world and the world’s richest country falling behind in education? The answer is because the cultural background is completely different. When Asian students excel in mathematics it is because they don’t give up when the question is difficult. In the national best selling Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, he discusses why Asian students are academically better than others. It is because they know that an education is the key to success. The driven parents that gave their children the tools to succeed in school. They also have the foundation correct like no TV before all of their homework is complete. Maybe if we thought and acted differently on how to educate our children we could make dramatic progress.
Stop criticizing President Obama with negative rhetoric
•March 2, 2009 • 1 CommentHe was handed this enormous domestic crisis with the national debt and mortgage crisis from one of the worst Presidents in our history. I’m surprised George W Bush didn’t take the last spot from James Buchanon. Barack is trying his best to bandage the economy with the economic stimulus package. Not only does he has that to worry about but millions of Americans losing their jobs every single day. Also he has the mortgage crisis going on with millions of foreclosures every month. In the meantime Wall Street CEO’s are making like a bandit with millions of dollars in bonus while middle class Americans can’t pay their bills. We are in two wars right now that is costing the U.S. $400 + million dollars a day to keep fighting. I can’t take the bloggers and pundits criticizing our newly elected President like that. Sure he made a minor mistake with Tom Daschle but that is nothing compared to what Bush has done. On other note with the NY Post cartoon depicting Obama is a violent chimpanzee that was killed by police on Monday. In the cartoon one of the officers said “They’ll have to find someone else to sign the next stimulus bill.” This cartoon is very racist because everyone knows that since the 1800’s white slave-owners have been calling black people gorillas and monkey. They started this because black slaves acted wild and had a “resemblance” to monkeys. This racism has to stop once and for all. I hope since we elected the first African American President race relations would get better. I guess not and Eric Holder was absolutely right today. Blacks have not been credited enough for their accomplishments in American society. All we learn about in school is Martin Luther King Jr. and a little bit of Malcolm X. What about Benjamin Banneker one of the greatest African Americans that this country has ever seen. What about Langston Hughes, Madam C.J. Walker,Dr. Ben Carson, Elijah McCoy?
Barack Obama isn’t your typical African American because he isn’t. He is a biracial American whose mother was a white woman from Kansas and whose father was from Kenya. He was the first Black President under the Harvard Law Review. He wrote two New York Times bestsellers books Dreams From My Father and The Audacity of Hope while serving his Senate term. I thought we were slowly moving towards a better America but we keep moving backwards and dare to question the integrity of this man?
